The new Energy Research + Sustainability Center at CSU Humboldt will support the College of Natural Resources and Sciences’ departments for Environmental Resources Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Environmental Sciences, and Technology. The two-story, 20,000 sf building will feature research and teaching laboratories and office space. The project aims to promote hands-on, interdisciplinary student learning as well as campus-wide environmental sustainability.
R+C designed a prefabricated superstructure for the ERSC project, which is all mass timber with CLT floors, glulam beam and columns, and utilizes metal stud walls and SureBoard shear walls as the lateral system—significantly reducing costs for the structure.
