Project Manager

José has more than a decade of experience in structural engineering designing, evaluating, and retrofitting buildings. His portfolio spans a wide range of building types, including healthcare facilities, institutional buildings, multi-family housing projects, and industrial structures. He is experienced in performing both linear and nonlinear analyses and has experience employing base isolation and viscous dampers to enhance the structural performance of buildings. His current work at Rutherford + Chekene is focused on managing projects under the U.S. General Services Administration on-call contract.

Committed to serving the community, in January 2020, José co-led a post-earthquake volunteer effort involving 20 engineers to inspect and tag buildings in accordance with ATC-20 guidelines after a 6.4-magnitude earthquake struck Puerto Rico. As a result of this initial effort, he co-founded a nonprofit organization, "Voluntariado de Ingenieros y Profesionales de Puerto Rico", to help low-income families rebuild homes damaged by the earthquake.
