UC Santa Cruz Digital Arts Research Center
Santa Cruz, California

The Digital Arts Research Center provides studios and offices for several departments, including Art, Theater Arts and Music. The facility also houses the Digital Arts and New Media department. Interior spaces are devoted to a media laboratory with a perimeter fixed catwalk level, a reflective research laboratory with high ceilings and a skylight, various studios, and a rooftop plaza with public access. The 42,000 square foot, three-story facility was built into a steeply sloping site and features a pedestrian bridge entrance. R+C provided structural and geotechnical engineering for the $21 million project, which opened in 2009.
