UC San Diego Supercomputer Center
San Diego, California
Primarily funded by the National Science Foundation, the Supercomputer Center serves as the data-intensive site lead for the TeraGrid. The expansion of the center provides 85,000 square feet for faculty offices, classrooms, computer server space and a conference center. Close integration of architectural, structural and M/E/P systems achieved a 36 percent energy savings over a conventionally designed computer facility. This equals $360,000 a year in energy savings. R&C provided structural engineering services for the center’s expansion.
