UC Merced Science and Engineering Building
Merced, California
The 211,000 square foot, LEED Gold certified building provides laboratory space, a small-animal vivarium, and offices for two of the three academic divisions at the campus—Engineering and Natural Science. Structural contributions to the green design included the use of recycled structural steel and fly ash concrete, with a total of 36 percent of building materials incorporating post-consumer, post-industrial recycled content. R&C provided structural engineering for the $51 million building.
Other assignments at the campus include the detailed project program for the Science and Engineering building as well as for the library and the seismic evaluation of an existing building.
