5th and Columbia High-Rise Review
Seattle, Washington

The project involves the seismic peer review of a 600-foot tall office building. The building features a tall atrium at the first level and is situated above seven levels of underground parking, with a seismic force-resisting system using reinforced concrete walls and steel braced frames. The sloped site contains the historic 1904 Rainier Club building, which is to be preserved. The 5th and Columbia building exceeds the height limit of the International Building Code for concrete wall or braced frame systems. R&C's scope of work includes validating specific design criteria, reviewing design approaches and drawings, and carrying out independent review calculations.
