Pixar Animation Studios
Emeryville, California
Located in an industrial neighborhood, the 220,000 square foot building evokes the look of a converted warehouse, with hand-laid brick exteriors and exposed steel in the interior. The building houses offices, a major server room, sound rooms, screening rooms, a café and a recreation center. Due to the importance of meeting movie release dates, Pixar opted for a base isolation system that should allow operations to resume within 48 hours after a major earthquake. R&C provided structural engineering design services.
R&C also provided the renovation and build-out of 56,000 square feet of tenant improvements to a vintage warehouse adjacent to the central campus. The design included offices, recreation areas and an art studio, as well as video teleconferencing rooms.
