Stanford University Xanadu House Renovation
Stanford, California

Xanadu House is a wood-framed student row house built in 1976, with about 15,000 square feet in three stories. As part of a capital improvement program project, new programming, life safety, and telecommunication features were added; architectural finishes were updated; the kitchen and restrooms were remodeled; and new site landscaping was installed. Rutherford + Chekene provided structural engineering services including a complete seismic rehabilitation to current Stanford standards for existing construction and lowering of a portion of the bottom story to permit a new accessible pathway.
