Public Utilities Commission Building Review
San Francisco, California

Working with the San Francisco Department of Public Works and Department of Building Inspection, R&C is providing seismic peer review of the new 13-story headquarters for the San Francisco Public Utilities Commission. The building is designed to achieve LEED Platinum certification for environmental sustainability. The building’s innovative seismic force-resisting system consists of two concrete core walls post-tensioned with vertical unbonded tendons. Coupling beams in the walls are post-tensioned longitudinally with horizontal unbonded tendons. The building includes a one-story basement that is seismically separated from the core walls.
