Mills-Peninsula Medical Center
Burlingame, California
The five-story, 400,000 square foot acute care hospital provides 232 beds, all in private rooms. It was designed as a "technology-ready" facility with electronic patient charting and Internet-based capabilities for advanced communication among patients, their families and physicians. The project also includes a 126,000 square foot medical office building with 84,000 square feet for specialty physician offices, a central utility plant, and a 750-car parking garage. A 150- to 200-bed skilled nursing facility is planned for a later phase. The hospital will include a base isolation system in order to meet immediate occupancy performance standards. The hospital is being designed to achieve LEED certification. R&C provided structural engineering, including preparation of a BIM model for clash detection.
