Monterey Bay Aquarium Research Institute
Moss Landing, California

The Monterey Bay Aquarium Research Institute's remote-operated vessels explore the adjacent Monterey Submarine Canyon, attaining depths that exceed 15,000 feet. The institute's facility at Moss Landing includes a 70,000 square foot building occupied by a 180-person science, engineering and administrative staff; a 23,000 square foot research vessel operations building; a 63,000 square foot laboratory research and administration building featuring a 45’x30’35’ deep tank; and a concrete pier for the three research vessels. R&C provided engineering support, performing soils investigations, topographic and hydrographic surveys, civil and structural design, and seawater system design in several stages.
