UC Berkeley Hearst Memorial Mining Building
Berkeley, California
Located approximately 500 feet from the Hayward Fault, the circa 1907 building designed by John Galen Howard is included on the National Register of Historic Places. Renovation of the 103,000 square foot structure uses base isolation and dampers to respect the historic character of the building while creating a contemporary teaching and research facility for the Material Sciences and Mineral Engineering Departments. R&C provided structural and geotechnical engineering services.
