Bret is widely recognized as an innovator in the field of seismic engineering. In his 22 years at R+C, he has served as project principal and senior structural engineer on many of the firm's most challenging projects, including the New de Young Museum in Golden Gate Park and the retrofit of Frank Lloyd Wright's Hanna House.

Bret is committed to providing creative, collaborative, high-quality service that meets his clients’ needs. His current portfolio includes the UC Santa Cruz Digital Arts Research Center, housing renovations at Stanford University and new laboratory facilities at UC Berkeley. He has also conducted strong motion instrumentation research, peer reviews for various clients, and plan reviews of two new seismically isolated hospitals for OSHPD.

Active in applied research and guideline development, Bret has been a project manager or co-author of several significant publications in earthquake engineering. A sought-after speaker, he is known for the ability to communicate to both technical and non-technical audiences. Bret has been deeply involved in many professional organizations and volunteer activities throughout his career. He was president of the Structural Engineers Association of Northern California and is currently president of the Applied Technology Council.
