Principal Rich Niewiarowski Retires
A Principal and 38-year veteran of R&C, Rich Niewiarowski retired in July. Rich joined R&C in 1972 after receiving his M.S. and Engineer degrees from Stanford University. By the 1980s, Rich was heading up our then-branch office in San Jose. Promoted to principal in 1990, Rich led the structural teams for the Aquarium of the Pacific in Long Beach and the UCSF Kalmanovitz Library. In the 1990s, he also served as project director and co-principal investigator for the development of the ATC-40 document, a performance-based methodology for evaluation and retrofit of concrete buildings. Rich served on R&C's board of directors from 2001 to 2009.
In recent years, Rich has served as principal for the Pier 1 renovation, AT&T Ballpark, the C.V. Starr East Asian Library at UC Berkeley, the New de Young Museum and the new Exploratorium museum. In 2005, he was selected to join the CSU Seismic review Board, which advises the University in seismic policy and provides peer reviews of CSU building projects at their 23 campuses.
Though he is travelling and enjoying his newfound retirement, Rich is still reachable through R&C, is available for consultantion on select projects and will continue his work on the CSU Seismic Review Board.
