Located on the San Francisco waterfront, this 40,000-seat stadium is the home of the San Francisco Giants. Rutherford & Chekene provided engineering services for the ballpark’s foundations and waterfront walk as well as design of all parking areas.


UC Santa Barbara, Recreation Center

UC Santa Barbara, Recreation Center, Santa Barbara, California
The 140,000 sf recreation center includes a 124-foot clear span gymnasium with four basketball courts, facilities for volleyball and racquetball, a roller hockey rink, cardiovascular and weight training rooms, classrooms and locker rooms. The aquatics center includes two outdoor pools—one 60 meters by 25 yards and the other, 25 yards by 25 yards. Rutherford & Chekene served as structural and civil engineer.

Designed as a potential Olympic venue, the remodeled Aquatic Center includes three pools. Other additions to the Center include varsity and recreation locker rooms, a pool-control office and filter equipment. Rutherford & Chekene provided structural and geotechnical engineering.



Chico State University Wildcat Activity Center, Chico, California
The center consists of a complex of buildings of approximately 130,000 sf. The facility includes a weight and fitness center, three multi-purpose studios, an indoor track, four gymnasiums, a rock climbing wall, and an aquatics center. The facility is intended to achieve LEED Silver certification. Rutherford & Chekene is providing structural engineering utilizing 3D modeling (BIM).


City College of San Francisco Wellness Center, San Francisco, California
Geotechnical services include review of existing documents, soils evaluation, foundation evaluation and recommendations, and construction observation for the gymnasium wing and natatorium. Challenges include liquefaction mitigation and methane gas ventilation. The natatorium includes a new pool and related facilities that will be part of a recreation center.


Stanford Stadium

Rutherford & Chekene served as structural and civil engineer for numerous stadium projects, including the stadium’s press box seismic retrofit and elevator addition. R&C was also responsible for a series of past improvements to the facility that focused on improving user safety and comfort.
